The third installment of the annual EMERGENCE fashion show dedicated to creative liberation. Produced by Gaia Wu and Vega Vosbeek.
FUTURE ANCESTORS asked designers to create legacies for future descendants, transforming their ancestral origins through fashion. The project was an act of worldbuilding, including not only a fashion exhibition but gallery show, mutual aid projects, community events and partnerships, and the continued growth of a deeply transformative community.
Ancestral portals were opened through a captivating opening performance featuring song & sermon by Sigrid Elliot, drums, bass, gong, & electronic production by Blood4Rain, organ by Derek Sup, and violin by Kana Luzmoor. Brit presented a spoken word shibari performance, followed by over 35 original looks by 20 QT/BIPOC Bay Area Designers.
Vega’s looks, SHED and CRASH, are visions of a trans mythology to be passed down for generations. May we thrive forever.
